Are you an innovator, advocate or leader? If so – or if you know other Indiana CPAs who are – this is the time to gain recognition for your efforts to strengthen the Indiana CPA Society and the CPA profession.

award-nominationsEach year the Society recognizes the state’s top CPAs in various categories through its awards program. The awards are presented at CPA Celebration, which is always a memorable and festive event. The 2017 CPA Celebration will be on May 12 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis.

Award winners are selected several months ahead of time, and the next awards nomination deadline is coming up soon: December 7. I encourage you to nominate someone for an award. And get this … you can even nominate yourself!

Next year will be a special year as INCPAS changed its award categories to reflect the strategic direction of the organization and the future of the CPA profession. Gone are the traditional categories of Outstanding CPA in Public Practice, Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry, and Outstanding Educator.

They have been replaced by three new categories that align with the INCPAS strategic objectives and bold challenges. Certainly those members who would have been qualified for one of the discontinued awards are eligible for the new ones. And also new, all three can be given to an individual OR a firm.

The first new award is the Building Bridges to the Profession Award. Do you, someone you know, or your firm utilize creative recruitment techniques, encourage diversity, promote unique staff training or mentoring, or reach out to transitional professionals? If so, you or your firm would be a great candidate for this award.

Second is the CPA Center of Excellence® Award. Do you, someone you know, or your firm utilize CPA Center of Excellence® tools to take advantage of collaboration opportunities, develop vital business skills, or participate in competency-based learning? If you do, then this award is for you (or your colleague or firm).

Finally, the Innovation Award was designed to recognize a person or firm for creative, unique and forward-thinking practices. This could be changes to your organizational structure or operations, or innovative approaches to HR, use of technology or billing. All innovative individuals and firms are encouraged to apply.

But we didn’t completely change everything. We still have the Emerging Leaders Award, the Advocacy Award and the Outstanding Community Service Award. These evolving types of achievements and recognition are vital to the success of the Society and the profession.

Nominating someone is easy. We have a new online submission form that only takes a few minutes to complete. You’re asked for some basic information, and most importantly “why should the nominee be considered for this award?” There you can give as much information as you choose.

The list of past INCPAS award recipients is impressive. There are many outstanding CPAs who have been leaders in the profession over the past few decades. Wouldn’t you want to add your name or the name of someone or firm that you hold in high regard?
